Facebook Says Bugs may have exposed over 7M users' photo

According to the statement given by the company, a software bug might have affected over 7 M users by exposing a major set of photos to the application developers than the expected exposure.

Well, this doesn’t mean that all of the photos can be seen by anyone. This does mean that the bug sends a reminder to how much data Facebook’s 2.27 billion users has and how frequent they change it.

Further reports state that over 6.8 M people were affected by the software bug. These people were the ones who gave their permission to the third-party apps allowing them to get access to their photos. To this, Facebook said that the photos were visible for up to 12 days in the month of September and now the bug has been fixed.

Often users give the grant to third party apps to access their photos from their Facebook page. But the bug got access to photos from other sources as well, like the ones shared on Marketplace or Facebook Stories, or photos that were uploaded but not posted due to technical errors. This bug raised so many problems related to the private security of the bigger Social networking channel users.

Cambridge Analytica, the leading data-mining firm got access to the data from over 87 M users that led to congressional hearings and major changes in what type of data the social networking giant allow outside developers to get access to. In the month June, a software bug publically posted the data of the users despite their privacy settings. This software bug affected 14 M users in May as well.

To deal with these privacy issues, Facebook organized a one-day "pop-up" to inform users about their settings and the new things that were coming up in their minds. Erin Egan, the Chief Privacy Officer of the company asked one lady about the privacy grade that she would give to the social networking giant for the running year, she replied "B” but she hopes situations to improve and improve the grade to “A” By 2019.

That means the company has to work out on things to makes it to the top grade.
