The new Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has made new policies of flying drones in India that will come into effect from December 1. Surprisingly, in the US and other countries, so many e-commerce channels including Amazon use drones in order to deliver product to the shoppers. The new policy contains some dos and don'ts and lists of documents need to submit to fly drones. Here are the things that you need to know before flying a drone:

According to the policy, the drone operator needs to get Unmanned Aircraft Operator Permit and all systems including drones, commands, control links, and other components that are connected to flying drone must have Unique Identification Number plastered on the drone.

Total five categories of drones, Nano weighing less than or equal to 250 gram, Microdrone 250gm to 2kg,  Small 2kg to 25kg, Medium 25kg to 150kg and Large more than 150 kg have been recognized by the DGCA.

All drones except Nano drones need Import clearance grant from DGCA. Certain exemptions need a grant from local police before flying in the air. The Age limit for flying drone in India is above 18 years and the person must have passed 10th class in English. Not only this, he or she must have completed training approved by DGCA. There is a list of documents that need to be submitted to get a grant to fly drones. After submitting the documents, the grant is received within the next seven days. This grant is given for the next 5 years and cannot be transferred.

All drones must follow the rules and the guidelines set by DGCA. All drones can fly within a certain limit only in daytime. They should fly in visual line of sight only. The policy rule also states that no person possessing two drones can fly both of the drones at the same time. As the system can be remotely controlled, no one is allowed to fly more than one drone at one time. No one is allowed to fly drone within 5Kms radius of the airports of the metro cities including Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, and Hyderabad. For other cities, the range is 3Kms only. No drone will fly within a 25Kms radius of an international border.

There are some special areas defined by DGCA where there are strict ‘No Drone’ fly instructions. These areas include within 5 km radius of Vijay Chowk, New Delhi; eco-sensitive zones national parks and wildlife sanctuaries; within 3 km of State secretariat areas, within 2 km of “strategic locations”.
