WhatsApp Launches Second Campaign "Share Joy, Not Rumours" to Fight Fake News





On Monday WhatsApp launched the second campaign of its "Share Joy, Not Rumours" campaign in order to make the best use of this platform before Lok Sabha polls.

According to the company, in the second leg of this campaign, users will get a chance to learn controls that are available in this platform, WhatsApp that can stop spreading misinformation.

The first leg of this campaign has managed to reach hundreds of millions of people using this platform in rural and urban areas. Now the second leg of the campaign will focus on supporting the error-free election process.

Indian Head of Whatsapp, Abhijit Bose, said that they are actively working with the Election Committee and local partners to provide safer Election process. The main idea behind expanding this campaign is to stop the unnecessary spread of misinformation.

This platform’s digital literacy partners DEF and NASSCOM will share videos educating users and print ads will remind users how to identify and stop sharing misinformation that can impact Lok Sabha Election poll results.

WhatsApp has been working quite hard and bringing changes in its platform for quite some months now. This includes labeling forwarded messages, setting a limit on sending forwarded messages, banning accounts engaged in the unwanted automated activity.


Reports said that WhatsApp and other social media platforms will have to request the Election Commission of India to add or remove any content within three hours during Lok Sabha Polls.
